Walking through the charming Rione Monti in Rome, I came across a lab store that immediately caught my attention. I went in and found beautiful and minimal creations in wood, in other natural materials and recycled objects, and I was happy to discover that they are all designed and handmade by two Roman brothers. Rigodritto is a young brand created in 2000 by one of them, Edoardo Maria Giusti. After years of custom made furnishings and products, in 2009 with the opening of the showroom in Via Urbana in the heart of Monti, he involved his brother Francesco and started with the serial production of furnishings of various nature.
Today their collections includes more than thirty articles – that go from bookshelves and chest drawers, to lamps and place mats, from desks to wine shelves – as well as unique pieces and limited editions, and are entirely designed by them and self-produced in Rome. They only use virgin materials, and work together with local and highly selected craft workers. Every item is handled, finished and checked one at a time.
In the era of Ikea and of the digital revolution, it is inspiring and satisfying to find young creative talents who believe in their work and bite the bullet despite all the difficulties. Rigodritto’s works come from nature and recall nature, and express other important values such as confidence in the capacity of man, respect of the environment, recovery and actualization of ancient crafts, sustainability of one’s work in relationship with the territory. This is their spirit, and ShopAround wishes them the best of luck!
