Creativity in a glass of wine
How many times do you look for the best wine with a nice atmosphere? Milan has a big offer of wineries, but only a few of them are really characteristic and different.
La Cieca is a very nice and welcoming small winery in Porta Romana, where wine experts hang out. My advice is to sit at the bar, the guys are very nice! They will certainly suggest what suits you best and offer you some snacks and tapas together with your choice. The peculiarity of this place is right in its name: in addition to the regular list there is a selection you can taste alla cieca (i.e. blind). You will be served a black cup, and you will need to guess the name, the label and the year. If you are a connoisseur you might even win a bottle. A fun way to spend the evening or to snag the bottle for the notorious dinner!
Bìcerin is a magical place, a jump back in time, starting from the name, that in our grandparent’s dialect means “the shot”. Surrounded by bintage and sophisticated furniture, you can sit on comfortable sofas to relax while tasting excellent wines. Here at Bìcerin they are keen to make their customers taste true niche wines, even those made by small Italian and international producers. You may find also Jordan wines, for example! This wine museum offers a very special experience: the wine library, with compulsory reservation, where you can live an alternative gastronomic journey. It’s called the library because on every label you can read the bottle history. The owners will be able to explain everything and suggest the best lebels for you to create your personal home cellar / library.
If you are a wine lover do not miss the wine sharing Monday event: a bottle to share between six wine experts to discover new rareties. An other event is Le domeniche al Bic (i.e. Sundays at Bic), a series of meetings to deepen the knowledge of wine through gastronomic or artistic paths.
The cuisine is always based on natural and seasonal products, and after 10:30 p.m. you can taste sweet wines together with the rich dessert menu. The perfect place to pamper yourself with good and sophisticated taste.
Wine & Poems in China Town
I couldn’t miss Cantine Isola, a historic winery in Milan since 1896. Today it is a gathering place for many right in the middle of China Town, between a Chinese restaurant and a dumpling shop. After dodging a shove and the other you will succeed in grabbing your drink and old-school snack from the counter. An endless sequence of shelves display labels from all around the world. At the beginning of each month Cantine Isola offers a special bottle by the glass while on Tuesday there are poem readings during happy hour. The selection is huge and Cantine Isola is exciting and chaotically Italian. A true local experience!
